Before & After: Color & Cut Refresh

Chop chop! Can I just say this as a hair stylist and hope it translates the right way? If your hair is past your bra strap it probably isn’t doing anything for you. And by anything for you I don’t actually mean that, however, it could be doing MORE for you. Depending on texture and density, of course, you may benefit from taking your hair up several inches to sit around your shoulders. Your hair will still be long but when styled it looks fuller and thicker because you’re keeping the healthiest parts of your hair still. By the time your hair grows out to a length in the mid back region there is a very strong chance the ends are not as thick and it can look a little dead/wispy. Case in point with this client’s before and after below. We cut off 6+ inches to give her a healthy, manageable length that still does everything super long hair can do but looks, in my opinion, WAY better!

Before & After: Going Darker

In an era of balayage, ombre, color melt, stretched root madness, it’s nice to get a client who is ready to take their balayage to something else. Change. Is. Good! And with hair color, change doesn’t have to be permanent either. My client actually loved her balayage color but has had it for so long that she was wanting to see something different, but also kind of ‘scared’ she wouldn’t like it as much. I told her the fun thing about hair color is we can always change it back to where you started if it’s not your favorite. As long as you consider the integrity of your hair, go for change and try new things!

To change up this client’s sunkissed shade, we opted for a dark chocolate brunette color all over. What’s nice is the highlighted pieces capture the color a little lighter than her virgin (untreated) hair and so she already has dimension instead of being an all over solid shade. What do you think?

Before & After: Winterized Brunette

Hey you. You brunette you. It’s fall (probably feels like winter) at this point and you’re pale. Dull. You need some richness, some revival back in to your look and the quickest way to get this is a color refresh. Take your brunette from basic and mousy, to rich, shiny, and dark chocolately. And let these before and after photos be proof that all it takes is one color appointment to get an instant transformation! Color, cut and style by me!

Before & After: My First Highlight

So it’s been a hot minute (almost two years?!) since my last post on the heavily trafficked (sarcasm font, should be obvious) website. I know this site has been sitting here but I couldn’t justify a reason to consistently post without it feeling forced, therefore I didn’t. To bring you up to speed, I am currently studying cosmetology at the Aveda Institute in West Des Moines, Iowa. This journey has been a long time coming for me, and a license in cosmetology will help me to futher my long term goals of salon/spa ownership in addition to product and brand development. More on that to come in future posts, but first things first…

These before and after photos are of my very first partial highlight I did on a guest in May 2016. I focused on highlighting her new growth and pulled down Aveda Enlightener on strands that were darker, kicking out any already blonde/processed ends. The result was a nice refresh and an overall bronde, sunkissed shade. The coverage was great for it just being a partial highlight!

So there ya have it folks, my ‘first highlight’ and first hair post with many more to come! And by the way I am totally still leaving up my outfit posts from two years ago. I still want and shamelessly like these outfits LOL. That’s just my style!
